A majority of the world’s population is now in social isolation and some countries have imposed a total or partial lockdown, new challenges and disruptions have been faced by many in their day-to-day lives. With many now permitted to shop for only food or medical supplies and all non-essential items and travel have been restricted or banned.
The concept of drone deliveries has been around for a while with many e-commerce giants showing an interest; however, as the pandemic deepens it has become strikingly clear there is a need for vital equipment and supplies to be delivered whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines.
But how close are we to being able to fully utilise our logistic aviation landscape? How soon can we expect flying drone deliveries to become a reality? There are several hurdles that the industry needs to overcome, whether it be the regularity rules and conduct or the public perception and acceptance.
