With more than 30 years of experience in banking and finance, Rod has worked in various risk-related roles covering consumer/retail banking, wholesale banking, investment banking, and wealth and asset management. He has extensive compliance risk, project management, and people management experience within large financial institutions, and has a proven track record of delivery in environments of significant change.
Rod helps clients design and implement robust anti-financial crime risk management programs that fully comply with the laws and regulations in the jurisdictions they operate in. He specializes in financial crime compliance and core compliance, with deep knowledge of anti-money laundering/counter-terrorist financing, economic sanctions, and anti-bribery and corruption.
Data analytics and artificial intelligence can revolutionize regulatory compliance. All financial institutions need a clear and defined path for data and technology. By using data and these technologies, both financial institutions and regulators can get deeper insights, detect patterns, and better understand risk. This will improve risk management programs, supervision, and enforcement
He has interacted significantly with governments and regulatory bodies globally on various compliance-related matters. He is a board member (and founding member) of the Hong Kong Chapter of the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS). He has also represented several global banks at the Wolfsberg Group, an association of 11 global banks established to develop finance industry standards and products relating to financial crime compliance.
Rod and his family love the outdoors. They enjoy hiking, biking, and kayaking to the nearby islands. Rod is also passionate about fitness, football (as a lifelong Liverpool FC supporter), diving, and music.
